​Buxton University has evolved over four decades into the International Distance learning and Assessment Institution it is today.

 

The original Buxton College of Business and Technology was formed in England in 1973 as a private degree granting body offering degrees in business and technology areas.

This structure remained until 1998 when there was a major change in legislation in the UK which impacted on the programs offered by private degree granting bodies. This change became fortuitous as Buxton College was forced to adopt a new approach to it's corporate structure and internationalise, granting the status of a private university in the process.

The policy of Buxton University today is to continue to ensure that it's corporate structure and procedures are always compliant with relevant legislation and that it remains able to offer degrees legally in the UK as a foreign institution as well as to the global market. It adopted the status of an incorporated tertiary level private (rather than public) academic institution in the Republic of the Seychelles, under which it was specifically permitted to offer all forms of curriculum activity.

 

In 2010 the reliance on a single national jurisdiction for legal existence was changed in favour of a consortium arrangement of international Trusts and Agreements to accentuate the international nature of Buxton University.

In 2019, Buxton University made the moral decision to make all degree verifications entirely online. Less paper means more trees.
